Rape is a crime

Break the silence (3/8)

© Yves Lambert

Whatever the circumstances of the aggression, you are not guilty for what happened. You shouldn't feel ashamed. As much as possible don't stay alone.

Perhaps you're afraid of the reactions of your family and friends. You need for people to believe you. Don't be afraid to call upon a person whom you trust and try to explain what happened, even if you can't say everything at once. Write it if you aren't able to speak, express yourself in whatever way works for you

Silence is the first of several obstacles to overcome: the more you remain silent, the greater the risk of difficulties.

If you find no one or if you prefer to remain anonymous, you can call the SOS VIOLS switchboard (anonymous and free throughout France).

Your revolt is legitimate. You need the aggressor to be found, that justice is dispensed.

What to do just after the aggression?

  • Inform the police or the sheriff's department. Dial 17. Consult a doctor.
  • The police or the sheriff's office can bring you to the hospital.
  • If possible, keep your dirty clothes or underwear in a paper bag. This may useful in identifying the aggressor.
