Reimbursement

An abortion is 80 %reimbursed by Social Security. The price is strictly set. Most private health insurances (mutuelles) cover the balance (ticket modérateur), meaning the 20 % remaining at the cost of the insured person.

As a general rule, hospital establishments accept advancing the social security portion upon presentation of your carte social security card (carte vitale). If this isn't the case, you will be reimbursed in the usual manner, by sending the completed insurance form (feuille de soins) given by the hospital to your usual CPAM (Caisse Primaire d'Assurance Maladie).

The beneficiaries of CMU (Couverture Maladie Universalle) are 100 % covered.

Confidentiality ...

If you are a dependant of another insured person (your spouse, in general) and you don't want this person finding out through the reimbursement, you can obtain medical aid: a social worker, the planning center, the departmental Family Planning Movement, or the establishment where the abortion will be practiced will help you in this step.

For minors

The costs pertaining to the abortion of a minor for which parental consent was not obtained are completely covered by the State, following a procedure guaranteeing anonymity.
